References against judges: Lawyers to hold countrywide protest on June 14

ISLAMABAD: Provincial Bar Councils Saturday announced that all provincial bar councils would hold protest demonstrations against references against judges of the Supreme court and Sindh High Court on June 14.
Talking to media after a meeting of the representatives of the bar councils outside Supreme court, vice chairman of Pakistan Bar Council Amjad Shah said that the representatives of all four bar councils unanimously condemned the government for filing judges and demanded of the attorney general resign. He said that they would continue their peaceful protest till withdrawal of the references against judges.
He said that the lawyers would boycott the courts’ proceedings across the country on June 14 and would hold protest demonstrations. He termed the references against judges as malafide and said that they would not allow attack on judiciary. He said that the lawyers were not against the accountability of the judiciary. However, he added that the accountability should be across the board.
He the representatives of the bar councils endorsed the resolution of the Karachi Bar council and demanded of the Pakistan Bar Council to cancel the license of the attorney general and law minister.
