Rumours that Pakistan may default are false, says Dar

ISLAMBAD: Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has rejected reports about Pakistan being on verge of default, saying that anti-Pakistan elements are spreading these rumours.
In a statement, the finance minister said, “this is not only completely false, but also belie the facts. State Bank of Pakistan’s forex reserves have been increasing and are almost US $1 billion higher than four weeks ago despite making all external due payments on time.”
Ishaq Dar added that foreign commercial banks have started extending facilities to Pakistan. “Our negotiation with IMF are about to conclude and we expect to sign staff level agreement with IMF by next week. All economic indicators are slowly moving in the right directions,” he claimed.
