ISLAMABAD: Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Sartaj Aziz has said that social enterprises could play important role in creating jobs and accelerating economic activity in the country.
He was addressing the launching ceremony of report on ‘Social Enterprises for Women Empowerment’ by British Council in collaboration with UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (UNESCAP) in Islamabad on Thursday.
He said the planning commission had established the ‘center for entrepreneurship’ to assist and guide the aspiring entrepreneurs of the country.
Highlighting the role of UNESCAP, the Deputy Chairman said the UN body was collaborating to commitment towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in social, economic and environment fields.
Speaking on the occasion, Under Secretary General UN and Executive Secretary UNESCAP Dr. Shamshad Akhtar said the small and medium enterprises were generators of economic output and they were valuable source of motivation.
