ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court constituted a special committee on Friday to finalise recommendations on extending constitutional rights to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
A seven-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Saqib Nisar passed the order.
The special committee headed by the attorney general of Pakistan will comprise senior lawyers Aitazaz Ahsan, Salman Akram Raja, Javed Ahmed, Afrasiab and the secretary ministry of Kashmir affairs.
The committee will finalise recommendations on extending constitutional rights to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
The court directed the committee to take on board all the stakeholders and submit its recommendations by December 11. The hearing has been adjourned for December 24.
On November 28, Prime Minister Imran Khan approved changing Gilgit-Baltistan’s status to an interim province by accepting the recommendations of a reforms committee.The court directed the committee to take on board all the stakeholders and submit its recommendations by December 11.
