SC to announce judgement on 'Population Control' case tomorrow

LAHORE: The Supreme Court (SC) Thursday directed the authorities concerned to take back all the vehicles from those ministers and other officials who are not entitled to keep officials vehicle by 12:00AM May 31.
A three-member bench headed by by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was informed by addition attorney general Nayar Abbas that 105 vehicles were being used by federal government and cabinet.
According to reports, the JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman is using one landcruiser and three double cabin vehicles.
The additional attorney general informed the court that no official or minister was entiled to more than 1800 CC vehicle. The chief justice questioned the authority of the prime minister about ordering purchase of new vehicles.
The court directed the officials concerned to take back vehicles from minister and departments which are not entitled to official vehicles by 12:00am May 31. The court also directed the outgoing chief minister Shahbaz Sharif to return two extra vehicles, while Law minister Rana Sanaullah and others were asked to return official bulletproof vehicles.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court also ordered accountability courts to decide the pending references in a mega land scam case involving National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) within 10 days.
The scandal from five years ago pertains to financial embezzlement by former NICL chairperson Ayaz Khan Niazi, Mohsin Habib Warraich, then commerce minister (late) Makhdoom Amin Fahim, and several others in purchase of official land.
Resuming hearing at the Supreme Court Lahore Registry earlier today, a special three-member bench led by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar directed the accountability courts of Lahore and Karachi to decide all four references in the case within 10 days.
