SC reprimand authorities for additional taxes on petroleum products

Petrol price likely to increase by Rs9 before Eid-ul-Fitr

KARACHI: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday has expressed anger over the imposition of additional taxes on petroleum products and summoned secretary petroleum, power ministry secretary, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Friday.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the case of petroleum products high prices and extra taxes in the Supreme Court Karachi registry and reprimanded authorities for taxes saying the people were sick of heavy taxes.
He said that time to time tax implementation was a burden on underprivileged people and added that authorities concerned would be answerable for each tax they implement on petroleum products.
The CJP also expressed suspicion over the process of import of petroleum products.
