Score of heatstroke patients rushed to hospitals in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Several heatstroke patients were brought to the hospitals in the provincial capital as several parts of the province remained in the grip of severe heat on the third consecutive day on Monday.
The patients were moved to Hayatabad Medical Complex, Khyber Teaching Hospital and Lady Reading Hospital. Most of them have been discharged after the treatment.
Emergency has been declared at all the hospitals on the provincial government s directives. Additional beds have been placed in various wards of the government hospitals while staff members have been directed to remain present on their duties.
The mercury in the provincial capital soared to 43 degree Celsius, forcing the residents to remain indoors. However, several children and elders were brought to the hospitals after their condition deteriorated owing to dehydration.
Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 service has issued alert in view of the new heat wave. According to Recue 1122 spokesman Bilal Ahmad Faizi, medicines and other equipment have been provided to the ambulances and leaves of the staff members have been cancelled.
