Special persons can take helper inside polling stations: EC

PESHAWAR: Provincial Election Commissioner (EC), Pir Maqbool Ahmad Monday announced that special persons can take a helper along with them inside polling stations for casting votes.
This announcement was made during a meeting of Provincial Election Commission about Gender Electoral group, said a press release.
The meeting was chaired by Provincial Election Commissioner, Pir Maqbool Ahmad and attended by Director General Election Commission, Nighat Siddique, Director Gender, Haroon Shinwari, representatives of Women Commission KP, Aurat Foundation, PEAD Foundation, Khoindey Khor, Aware Girls, Special Persons Association and others.
During the meeting, it was also reiterated that last date for postal ballot by government employees and disabled persons is July 5.
The application form for postal ballot is available at the website of Election Commission.
Speaking on the occasion, representative of Special Person, Ehshan Ahmad said disabled persons deserve extra attention especially inside polling stations.
Replying to the demand, Provincial Election Commissioner said every possible assistance would be given to special persons.
He also directed the concerned officials that women and special persons should be given every kind of assistance for facilitating them in casting votes.
However, he hastened to add that the helper should also be an eligible voter.
The meeting was also told that monitoring teams are vigilant in each constituency and take forthwith action over violation of code of conduct in their respective areas. – APP
