Tribal elders warn of boycotting bye-election in Mohmand district

GHALANAI: The tribal elders in Mohmand tribal district have threatened to boycott upcoming bye-election in the districts if their demands were not accepted.
Addressing a press conference along with other tribal elders here on Monday Malik Nadir Manan said that the tribal elders were not taken into confidence regarding the merger of FATA with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said the tribal jirgas were being held in every tehsil of the district to convince the tribesmen not to participate in the election process as the government had not yet accepted their demands. Malik Ijaz, Malik Amir Nawaz Khan, Malik Ayaz and other tribal elders were also present during the press conference.
Nadir said that the tribal elders were unanimous in boycotting election. They had been protesting against the merger of the tribal districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from the day one, he said. He said that they were promised the tribal elders would be consulted about the merger, but they were completely ignored.
He said that internally displaced persons should have been repatriated and rehabilitated before the merger
