Two more polio cases surface in Bannu

PESHAWAR: Two more cases of polio have surfaced in Bannu here on Monday taking the total in the district to eight this year.
Officials of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Polio Emergency Operation Centre stated that both the victims are aged betwee one and five years. They said that the Peshawar incident in April had increased the risk of children contracting the poliovirus in the province.
In April, protesters burnt down a health facility in Peshawar following reports that multiple children had fallen sick after being administered anti-polio vaccine.
The protest was triggered by hearsay as medics at Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital, where most of the children were taken, said that an overwhelming majority of them were fine.
Meanwhile, two more polio cases also reported in Balochistan’s Qilla Abdullah and Jaffarabad districts. According to reports the affected children belonged to refusal families. These are first two cases of 2019 in Balochistan.
