PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has created two new tehsils namely Shakai and Shaktoi in the district of South Waziristan.
The announcement was made by Chief Minister’s Advisor on tribal districts during his visit to South Waziristan on Monday. During this visit, he inaugurated the Shakai and Shaktoi Tehsils and met with the local people. He said that giving the status of Tehsil to Shakai and Shaktoi was long-standing demand of the people which was finally fulfilled by the PTI government.
Advisor to the Chief Minister for Tribal Districts Ajmal Wazir has said that the present government is working for the rapid development of the tribal district as per the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Minister Mahmood Khan. “The proof of this allocation of Rs 163 billion for development projects during the current financial year, which is not available in the past,” said Ajmal Wazir.
Ajmal added that since the transfer of powers to the Tehsil council in the new local government system, it would be held to bring more development for the people of both the new tehsils. The adviser added that the Mehsud, Wazir, Duttani and Salman Khel tribes in South Waziristan are all equal, but the Mehsud tribes have special importance because of being a senior partner which will be respected everywhere and at all levels.
He said that Rs 163 billion has been allocated for the current financial year out of which 152 b was allocated by the federal government and 11 b by the provincial government. He said that in a few years, the destiny of the tribal areas, especially South Waziristan and especially Mehsud area will change.
In the end, the Mehsud jirga of the Tehsil Shaktoi assured them of all kind of cooperation and hoped that the tribal people would soon be recovered from centuries of backwardness and that they would also have basic facilities available like other developed areas of the country.
