United thrashes Zalmi by 7-wickets in PSL opener

DUBAI: Defending champion Islamabad United thrashed Peshawar Zalmi by seven wickets in the first T20 match of Pakistan Super League’s second edition at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Wicket-keeper batsman Brad Haddin has played a superb innings of 73 off 39 balls, while opener Dwayne Smith made 55 runs for the team victory.
Peshawar Zalmi had set 191 runs target with the help of Kamran Akmal’s 88 runs against Islamabad United.
Chasing a revised target of 173 runs in 18 overs, Islamabad United reached home with two balls to spare.
Brad Haddin 73 and Dwayne Smith 55 were the major contributions in the successful run chase. Brad Haddin was declared man of the match owing to his astounding knock.
Earlier, Islamabad United won the toss and elected to field first in opening match of Pakistan Super League 2017 against Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday.
Misbah-eleven will be fielding first against Zalmis who are being led by Shahid Afridi in Pakistan’s first ever multinational annual cricket franchise of its kind.
Haddin received ‘Man of the Match’ award for his excellent performance.
