Water commission orders FIRs registration against 6 factories’ owners

KARACHI: The Sindh Water Commission Saturday directed authorities concerned to registered FIRs against owners of six factories for dumping industrial waste in Karachi.
According to reports, owners of over 70 factories, which are releasing toxic industrial waste in city’s drains, appeared before the Sindh Water Commission, head of Sindh Water Commission Justice (retired) Amir Hani Muslim.
The commission was not happy with the refusal of factory owners to allow Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) officials for inspecting their factories’ premises.
The commission ordered SEPA officials to inspect all of the reported factories with a police party and directed relevant authorities to file cases against six factory owners.
The owners submitted an unconditional apology, during the hearing, and assured the court of complete cooperation with the authorities in the future.
