KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) chief Dr Farooq Sattar was detained and released in less than an hour late Friday night, police said.

Azad Khan, DIG South, had confirmed the arrest. The police party was led by DSP Kalakot Zahid Hussain and comprised two DSPs and four SHOs
MQM-Paksitan strongly condemned the detention of Dr Farooq Sattar.
Faisal Sabzwari, a leader of the MQM-P, said, “We don’t believe in politics of confrontation. We will give our reaction in a mature manner”.
The police claimed that the MQM leader had not applied for a pre-arrest bail in the hate speech case.
According to reports, Sattar was released after high-level political intervention and after written assurance by him to appear before Anti-Terrorism Court.
An emergency meeting was held at PIB Colony office to chalk out the future line of action.
Later, addressing a press conference at PIB colony residence/office, Farooq Sattar demanded that cases against his party workers related to ant-state speech by MQM founder on Aug 22 must be withdrawn and all the all innocent MQM workers should be released from jails.
Without naming the MQM founder Sattar said: “We have practically implemented minus one. If now our workers are not released from the politically motivated cases, our offices continues to remained sealed and if Pakistan`s fourth largest political party leader is treated such then people will get confused.”
“We have created an opportunity for the party but also for the LEAs; If the support is not given to those who stands with Pakistan Zindabad then the people will be forced to think that the agenda is beyond minus one,” he added.
