PESHAWAR:National Voters Day was observed with great enthusiasm in all districts of the Khyber Pakthunkhwa and tribal areas in a befitting manner under the  auspices of Election Commission with main focus on ensuring maximum  participation of the people in the democratic process.
The main function of the day at the provincial  level was held at Governor House followed by awareness walk by Governor  Iqbal Zafar Jhagra. Member Election Commission Justice (Retd) Irshaq Qaisar,  Provincial Election Commissioner Pir Maqbool Ahmed, Additional Director  General (Elections), senior officers of the election commission, MNAs,  MPAs, heads of the federal and provincial departments, professors and  students of Edwards and Islamia College attended the walk.
Member Election Commission from KP Justice (Retd)  Irshad Qaisar in her address said that the ECP has started work on  annual scrutiny of the electoral lists as part of the preparation of the general elections. The ECP was making every stride to ensure  transparent and fair general elections and has taken various steps to  this end. The present parliament has approved Elections  Act 2017 wherein eight different laws have been merged and the ECP has  drafted the rules under the same act and made it public.
A number of  measures have been taken to ensure participation of the people both men  and women and disabled people in the elections. The election results of the constituency where  women were barred from polling or where the turnout was less then ten  per cent would be declared null and void, member election commission  said. Modern technology was being introduced in coming general elections  to ensure balloting held as per international standard. The voters can  check his vote details and polling station through his mobile set in the  upcoming polling.– APP
