Parliament is supreme institution: Rabbani

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani has said that the parliament is the supreme institution as per constitution of the country.
Addressing a ceremony at National Press Club in Islamabad on Thursday, he said the parliament will have to play its role for redressal of the problems being faced by the people.
Rabbani said that a strong democracy was vital to take forward the country and address the challenges facing the country.
He said that the Parliament has to make the budget and decide the number of Supreme Court judges.
Rabbani said, “we need to make [people] understand that Parliament is the jugular vein of the country and federation. If the jugular is cut then the body will continue to suffer.”
“Parliament will have to play its role to face the immense internal and external challenges facing the country.”
“If the average person’s ownership will be inside Parliament, then there will not be any ‘intervals’,” he said, on the anniversary of the October 12, 1999 coup by then army chief General Pervez Musharraf.
