ISLAMABAD: PTI founder Imran Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Ali Zafar, has announced plans to approach the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to appeal the Toshakhana reference case verdict. Additionally, he stated that a separate application will be filed to suspend the decision made by the accountability court.
Speaking during a media briefing on Wednesday, Barrister Ali Zafar revealed that PTI’s legal wing had informed him about the intention to seek relief from the IHC. He emphasized that in the Toshakhana case, PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were denied the opportunity to present their witnesses, and lawyers were not allowed to cross-examine.
After obtaining a copy of the verdict, PTI has initiated proceedings at the IHC, challenging the decision that sentenced Imran Khan to 14 years in prison and disqualified him from holding any public office for ten years.
Barrister Ali Zafar also mentioned plans to file a separate request to suspend the decision of the Accountability Court. He argued that constitutional and legal aspects were overlooked in the decision and questioned the speed at which the judgment was reached. Claiming a hasty conclusion, he pointed out the historical context, stating, “Which trial in the history of Pakistan has been completed in 28 days as trials have been pending here for five or six years.”
