ISLAMABAD: The Managing Director of the Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) Shah Jahan Mirza said that there are currently 13 hydropower plants in progress, collectively generating 5,455 Megawatts (MW).
Speaking at a workshop organized by PPIB in collaboration with the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to enhance the tariff-based bidding process for hydropower projects in Pakistan, Mirza highlighted the imminent completion of the 884 MW Suki Kinari project, slated for operation by November 2024.
He underscored PPIB’s success in attracting private investment for hydropower Independent Power Producers (IPPs), citing the completion of four hydropower IPPs with a capacity exceeding 1,000 MW. Additionally, Mirza noted the successful implementation of 54 wind, solar, and bagasse-based IPPs, collectively generating 2,785 MW, thanks to PPIB’s efficient facilitation.
Mirza emphasized the significance of such initiatives in Pakistan’s pursuit of energy security, sustainability, efficiency, and competitiveness. He extended gratitude to AFD, the consultant, and all participants for their active involvement and contributions towards the success of the workshop.
