28th Anniversary of Nuclear Tests Marked with Strong Message from Pakistan’s Military Leadership

Pakistan marked the 28th anniversary of nuclear tests with a strong message of unity, resilience and defence commitment from the country’s top military leadership. The 28th anniversary of nuclear tests was observed as a reminder of Pakistan’s emergence as a nuclear power and its role in restoring strategic balance in South Asia. On this 28th anniversary of nuclear tests, the armed forces reaffirmed their resolve to protect the country under all circumstances.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Staff, along with Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu, extended greetings to the nation on the occasion.

The military leadership said the 28th anniversary of nuclear tests represents a defining moment in Pakistan’s history. It reflects national unity, courage and the collective decision that shaped the country’s defence posture in 1998.

They said the achievement of May 28, 1998, came in response to India’s nuclear explosions and led to Pakistan becoming a declared nuclear power. The leadership added that this step restored the strategic balance in the region and strengthened national security.

On the 28th anniversary of nuclear tests, the armed forces described Pakistan’s strategic capability as a sacred national trust. They said it continues to serve as a strong deterrent and ensures peace, stability and territorial integrity.

The statement highlighted that the success of the nuclear programme was made possible through the vision of national leadership, the efforts of scientists and engineers, and the sacrifices of the armed forces and the people of Pakistan.

The military leadership also vowed to continue safeguarding the country’s security and prosperity. They said the armed forces remain fully committed to defending Pakistan against all threats and challenges.

The ISPR message added that the nation renews its pledge of unity, vigilance and resilience on this important day. It said the 28th anniversary of nuclear tests is not only a historical milestone but also a symbol of national pride and determination.

On May 28, 1998, Pakistan conducted nuclear tests in Chagai, Balochistan, after India’s tests earlier that month. The development established Pakistan as a nuclear power and is widely seen as a turning point in regional security dynamics.

Since then, the day has been observed annually as Youm-e-Takbeer, marking Pakistan’s nuclear capability and its commitment to national defence and sovereignty.
