30 Bodies Found in Gul Plaza Fire, Death Toll Reaches 63

Karachi | January 21, 2026: Rescue teams recovered around 30 bodies from a shop on the mezzanine floor of Gul Plaza on Tuesday, taking the death toll from the deadly fire incident to 63, officials said.

According to authorities, the bodies were found during an ongoing search operation inside the fire-damaged commercial building, where efforts to locate missing persons continue.

Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi confirmed the recovery of approximately 30 bodies from the mezzanine floor.

SSP City Arif Aziz said the bodies were recovered from a shop identified as Dubai Crockery and were found in a severely burnt condition.

The Deputy Commissioner South said the recovery operation is still underway and all teams remain active at the site. He added that human remains of 20 to 25 individuals were recovered from the mezzanine floor and shopkeepers have been assisting rescue personnel.

Authorities said rescue workers are not allowed to carry mobile phones inside the building to prevent any leakage of images or videos.

Rescue officials stated that human body parts are still being recovered from the debris, adding that it is currently not possible to determine how many individuals the remains belong to. All recovered remains are being shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for examination.

Police Surgeon Karachi said a detailed forensic review of the remains is underway, but it is too early to confirm whether the remains recovered today belong to new victims or to bodies already recovered earlier.

The recovery operation is continuing.
