PISHIN: Security forces killed five Indian-backed militants during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Balochistan’s Pishin district, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), four militants linked to the Indian proxy group “Fitna al Khawarij” were shot dead during a fierce exchange of fire. Meanwhile, a suicide bomber detonated himself during the operation.
The ISPR said the operation was launched after receiving credible intelligence about the presence of militants in the area. As troops moved in, heavy gunfire erupted.
During the operation, security forces also recovered weapons, ammunition and explosive materials from the militants’ hideout. The ISPR stated that the killed militants were involved in multiple terrorist activities in the region.
Furthermore, a clearance operation is underway to eliminate any remaining threats in the area.
The military reaffirmed that security forces and law enforcement agencies are continuing counter terrorism efforts under the national vision of “Azm-e-Istehkam” with full momentum.
President Asif Ali Zardari praised the successful action against the militants. He said the intelligence-based operation reflects Pakistan’s firm resolve to eliminate terrorism. He added that the fight will continue until terrorism is completely eradicated.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also commended the security forces. He appreciated their professionalism and bravery in neutralizing the five militants.
He said the nation is proud of its security forces. He further added that timely action by brave personnel foiled the militants’ malicious plans. According to him, such operations are vital for restoring lasting peace in Balochistan.
Authorities confirmed that security operations will continue to ensure stability in the province.
