KP’s Provincial Law Minister Aftab Alam has announced that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to establish an inquiry commission to investigate the events of May 9th. Speaking to media, Aftab Alam mentioned that the final approval for this decision will be sought from Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
Aftab Alam clarified that the inquiry is not bound to be conducted by judges. He stated that if the judiciary is unwilling to carry out the inquiry, the government will establish the commission independently. He further noted that the Inquiry Act grants the inquiry officer the powers of a civil judge, and the government initially preferred a judicial inquiry due to the higher public trust in the judiciary.
On the other hand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advocate General Shah Faisal Utman Khail, while speaking to media, said that the provincial government was advised to send another letter to the High Court. He added that the government had informed the High Court of all details through a formal letter and had requested judges for a judicial inquiry.
However, the Advocate General noted that the High Court had raised objections to the government’s letter and returned it.
