Islamabad: A four-member commission, led by Member Sindh Nisar Durrani, convened to address the contempt of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) case involving Imran Khan, Asad Umar, and Fawad Chaudhry.
However, none of the accused attended the proceedings. The assistant counsel requested an adjournment, prompting Commission Chief Nisar Durrani to suggest a hearing in jail if security concerns existed. The Interior Secretary expressed no objection to this proposal.
Commission members questioned the legality of such a proceeding, leading the Interior Secretary to seek the law ministry’s opinion.
The lawyer disclosed that Fawad Chaudhry was in Adiala jail in judicial custody. PTI lawyer Shoaib Shaheen argued that only one meeting with the former Prime Minister was allowed, urging the Election Commission to issue an appropriate order for client meetings.
Member Sindh Nisar Durrani proposed conducting the hearing in Adiala Jail, ensuring all necessary facilities.
Shoaib Shaheen highlighted the denial of rally permissions, seeking a level playing field and informing the Election Commission in writing about the matter. Subsequently, the Election Commission adjourned the case’s hearing until December 06.
