AC reserves verdict on NAB’s plea for extension in Shahbaz’s remand

LAHORE: An accountability court (AC) reserved its verdict on the NAB request for 15-day extension in physical remand of Mian Shahbaz Sharif in Ashiana housing and Ramazan Sugar mill cases on Saturday.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif was presented before the accountability court of Judge Syed Najmul Hassan by the NAB on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the NAB has also arrested Shahbaz Sharif in Ramazan Sugar mills case, accusing him of misusing his power and constructing a bridge to Ramazan Sugar mill with millions of rupees.
Shehbaz, who has been in NAB’s custody since October 5 in connection to the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case, was flown from Islamabad to Lahore earlier today for his court appearance.
A large number of PML-N workers have gathered outside the court premises and security has also been increased.
The NAB prosecutor requested for extension in physical remand of Shahbaz Sharif for 15 days, saying that due to National Assembly session, they failed to complete interrogation of the accused. However, Shahbaz Shaif said that they were repeatedly interrogating him during physical remand. The court was informed that Shahbaz Sharif was also accused in Ramazan Sugar mill case and the NAB has already taken him into custody in this case. He requested the court to hand over the accused to NAB on physical remand in both cases.
The investigation officer also claimed that Shahbaz Sharif has threatened him.
The counsel for Shahbaz, Amjad Pervez, said that the NAB has failed to present any evidence against his client in Ashiana scheme case. He said that Shahbaz always cooperated with the NAB in investigation and he appeared before the NAB, whenever he was summoned.
He said that Shahbaz was summoned in Clean Drinking water case, but he was arrested in Ashiana housing case. He opposed the NAB’s request for physical remand.
