ISLAMABAD: Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir hearing alleged corruption cases against PTI Founder Imran Khan has requested leave until his retirement in March 2024 on Saturday.
According to sources, Judge Muhammad Bashir has submitted a letter to the Islamabad High Court and the Ministry of Law and Justice, seeking leave on medical grounds until his scheduled retirement on March 14 of this year.
The letter, received by the high court and the law ministry, indicates that Judge Bashir has asked for leave from January 24 to March 14 due to health reasons, as per sources.
Muhammad Bashir is hearing the £190 million pound and Toshakhana cases against the ex-premier and his wife Bushra Bibi.
In the letter, he has conveyed his inability to fulfill his duties due to poor health. Muhammad Bashir was the presiding judge for references against former prime ministers, including Nawaz Sharif, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Sayed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, and Shaukat Aziz.
He also presided over the hearings of references against former president Asif Ali Zardari in the accountability court.
