ISLAMABAD: Former President Asif Ali Zardari and former Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani have been summoned by an Accountability Court in Islamabad in connection with NAB cases.
The Accountability Court has issued summon notices related to fake bank accounts and Toshakhana NAB cases, requiring both politicians to appear in person on October 24.
It is pertinent to noted that on the final day of his tenure, former Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandial deemed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s petition against the NAB amendments admissible. Consequently, nine out of ten NAB amendments were declared null and void.
Following the Supreme Court’s decision to annul the NAB amendments, cases against former President Asif Ali Zardari and six former Prime Ministers were reopened. The Supreme Court’s ruling mandated the rescheduling of all cases in NAB and accountability courts.
Numerous cases that had been closed against politicians were resurrected in the wake of the Supreme Court’s rejection of the NAB amendments.
As a result of this development, the Toshakhana reference against Asif Ali Zardari, Nawaz Sharif, and Yusuf Raza Gilani has been reinstated. Additionally, the LNG reference involving former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was transferred from the accountability court, while the rental power reference against former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has been reinstated.
Furthermore, cases involving former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, and former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar are also set to be revived.
