PESHAWAR: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $250 million financial loan to enhance the reliability of electricity delivery in the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The initiative, known as the ADB’s Power Transmission Strengthening Project, aims to improve the stability of the national grid by increasing its transmission capacity.
The project involves expanding the high-voltage transmission network, focusing on integrating 500 kilovolt (kV) and 220 kV transmission lines loops. Additionally, it seeks to reduce transmission losses in Lahore, Punjab, by replacing old transmission lines.
In line with ADB’s ongoing collaboration with the National Transmission & Despatch Company Limited (NTDC), the project’s broader objective is to enhance energy security, promote climate resilience, and strengthen transmission capacity to support the deployment of sufficient, reliable, clean, and cost-effective energy.
