RAWALPINDI: The superintendent of Adiala Jail declined to allow former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s to talk to his sons via telephone from jail.
In a response submitted during a hearing in Judge Abu Alhasnaat Zulquranain’s court on Tuesday, the superintendent cited restrictions under the Official Secrets Act, stating that phone calls are not permitted for individuals detained under this act.
In light of this, the court instructed the superintendent to provide Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regarding phone calls from jail by October 18.
Imran Khan is currently held in Adiala Jail in connection with a cipher case registered under the Official Secrets Act. The allegations involve the disclosure of classified information from a cipher during his tenure as prime minister, a violation of the Official Secrets Act.
Initially detained in Attock Jail since his arrest in August, he was recently moved to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi as per the orders of the Islamabad High Court.
Imran Khan’s wife, Bushra Begum, expressed concerns in court, suggesting the possibility of her husband being poisoned. She filed a petition seeking improved facilities for the former PM, including home-cooked food and permission to exercise.
It’s noteworthy that Attock Jail authorities had previously denied Imran Khan’s request to speak with his sons via telephone, leading to a contempt of court filing against the Attock Jail Superintendent for non-compliance with the Official Secrets Act Special Court orders.
