Afghan Cricket Board Bans Janat for Five Years Over Corruption

KAKBUL: Afghanistan’s cricket board on Wednesday announced a five-year ban for former top-order batter Ihsanullah Janat after he confessed to engaging in “corrupt activities” during a domestic league. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) also revealed that three other unidentified players are under investigation for match-fixing.

Janat, 26, who is the younger brother of former Afghan captain and selector Nawroz Mangal, had a promising career with three Test matches, 16 One-Day Internationals, and one Twenty20 International to his name.

The ACB stated, “Janat has been banned from all forms of cricket for five years due to violations of the ACB and ICC Anti-Corruption Codes during the second edition of the Kabul Premier League 2024.”

The ban is effective immediately, according to the ACB.
