Over 30 women’s protest groups signed the open letter, highlighting the dire conditions faced by Afghan women and girls. They emphasized that women’s human rights are being violated under Taliban rule. Basic freedoms have been stripped away, leaving millions of girls without access to education.
The letter states, “The Taliban has enforced anti-women decrees, banning girls from schools. This has deprived millions of their right to learn. Such actions will lead to severe economic, social, and cultural challenges for Afghanistan’s future.”
The protesting women also expressed deep concern for ethnic minorities. They highlighted the Taliban’s harsh treatment of Hazaras, Tajiks, and Uzbeks. Many families have been forced to abandon their homes due to this oppression.
In their appeal, the women asked the U.S. to use its diplomatic and economic leverage to pressure the Taliban. They also proposed creating a special fund to support education for Afghan girls abroad. Establishing online schools and aiding refugees, especially women and girls, were among their key demands.
The letter stressed the importance of international collaboration. It urged the U.S. to work with global organizations to protect women’s rights activists in Afghanistan.
