AJK IG Liaquat Ali Malik has warned citizens against the growing threat of fake and misleading news, urging people to verify information before sharing it.
Addressing a press conference in Muzaffarabad, Malik said certain elements were spreading false propaganda about the situation in Kashmir and attempting to mislead the public.
He rejected reports claiming that routes in Azad Jammu and Kashmir had been closed, describing such reports as contrary to facts. He clarified that all entry and exit routes across the region remain fully open and traffic is operating normally.
The AJK IG said modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, are increasingly being used to create misleading narratives and fabricated content, leading to a rise in misinformation. He stressed that the public must remain vigilant and exercise caution while consuming and sharing information.
Malik also dismissed allegations regarding the stopping of a vehicle carrying food supplies, calling the claims baseless and unsupported by evidence. He said the authenticity of any report or claim can easily be verified through fact-checking.
He urged citizens to avoid believing or spreading unverified information and advised them to contact the AJK Police helpline in case of any emergency or difficulty.
The police chief said law enforcement agencies are continuously working to maintain peace and order, provide accurate information to the public and take effective action against false and misleading news.
