Al Jazeera accuses Modi govt of ‘Israeli-style’ policies

Doha: Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera has alleged in a recent report that the government of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is adopting “Israeli-style” policies against Muslims, particularly in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

According to the report, daily life in occupied Kashmir now resembles conditions seen in Gaza Strip, with heavy security restrictions, limited civil liberties and frequent crackdowns.

‘Shared ideological vision’ between India and Israel

The report claims that India-Israel relations are shaped by a shared ideological outlook. It says both governments view Muslims as a security and demographic threat. It also alleges that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leadership draws inspiration from Zionist governance models.

Al Jazeera further states that New Delhi supported Israel militarily during the Gaza conflict and incorporated Israeli surveillance and intelligence technologies into its security framework.

The report notes that in November 2019, India’s consul general in the United States reportedly spoke about applying an “Israeli model” in occupied Kashmir.

Since 2019, occupied Kashmir has remained under what the report describes as a sustained military lockdown. It says the restrictions have curbed civil liberties and disrupted routine life.

The broadcaster alleges that the Modi government has integrated Israeli-style security and administrative measures into Kashmir’s governance structure. These include expanded surveillance, frequent raids, checkpoints and communication blackouts.

Al Jazeera also criticised what it called an “Israeli-style bulldozer justice” policy. It alleged that authorities demolished hundreds of Muslim homes and shops in India and Kashmir without prior notice.

Critics, the report says, describe such demolitions as extra-judicial punishment. It adds that restrictions on freedom of expression and privacy have intensified in Kashmir.

The report raises concerns over the use of advanced surveillance tools to monitor dissent. It claims that the Hindutva ideology portrays minorities as security threats, deepening social divisions in India.

According to Al Jazeera, international concern is rising over what it calls serious human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.

Indian authorities have not immediately responded to the allegations outlined in the report.
