In a significant development, Amin ul-Haq, a close associate of Al-Qaeda founder Osama Bin Laden, has been arrested by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Punjab, Pakistan. The law enforcement authorities apprehended Haq during an intelligence-based operation conducted in Sarai Alamgir, a town located in the Gujrat district.
Haq, who has been associated with Bin Laden since 1996, was identified by the CTD as one of the top operatives of the extremist group. He stands accused of participating in numerous terrorist activities over the years. Additionally, he held the responsibility of coordinating security for Bin Laden until his demise.
The United Nations has designated Haq as a terrorist. According to senior CTD official Usman Akram Gonadal, investigations are underway to determine how such a high-profile figure managed to reside in Pakistan. The official disclosed that Haq was last sighted in Afghanistan in 2021 and possesses a Pakistani ID card listing addresses in Lahore and Haripur.
“A case has been filed against Haq,” the CTD officer confirmed, highlighting the seriousness of the charges. Authorities are diligently investigating Haq’s activities and connections within Pakistan and beyond.
Haq’s arrest marks a crucial breakthrough in counter-terrorism efforts in Pakistan, underscoring ongoing efforts to curb extremist activities and dismantle networks linked to global terrorism.
