ISLAMABAD: The federal government has appointed Pakistan’s current Ambassador to the EU and Belgium, Amna Baloch, as the new Foreign Secretary. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the appointment based on a summary sent by the Foreign Office.
The top position at the Foreign Office will become vacant in September, as the incumbent Foreign Secretary, Syrus Sajjad Qazi, is set to retire on September 10th this year.
After consulting with his foreign policy team, which includes Deputy PM Ishaq Dar and SAPM Tariq Fatimi, the Prime Minister approved Amna Baloch’s appointment as the new Foreign Secretary. She will assume her responsibilities on September 11th.
Ambassador Amna Baloch, a career Foreign Service officer, has been serving as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the EU and Belgium for the past year. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has also approved the appointment of new Pakistani envoys to various countries.
Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, currently Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, has been appointed as the new envoy to the EU and Belgium. Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch has been appointed as Pakistan’s new Ambassador to France.
Muhammad Saleem, an additional secretary at the Foreign Office, has been appointed as the new High Commissioner of Pakistan to Canada, succeeding the current High Commissioner, Zaheer Janjua, who is retiring this month. Senior career officer Janbaz Khan has been appointed as Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Malik Farooq, has been appointed as the new High Commissioner to South Africa.
