Apple has introduced additional measures to combat the sale of counterfeit iPhones with the release of the iPhone 15 series. The company has implemented an invisible watermarking feature on the iPhone 15 boxes, which can only be revealed under Ultraviolet (UV) light.
This invisible watermark serves as a means of verifying the authenticity of the device and is designed to deter potential buyers from purchasing fake iPhones. To further enhance security, a QR code is also included within the watermark.
While there may be concerns that scammers could attempt to replicate the watermark, the presence of the QR code adds an extra layer of security that makes it more challenging to duplicate.
Customers who purchase their iPhones directly from Apple’s official stores need not worry about authenticity. However, individuals who buy from the resale market or smaller vendors should exercise caution. To confirm the authenticity of their device, consumers are advised to check the device’s serial number and ensure that it matches the one printed on the box.
The iPhone 15 was recently made available for pre-order and is set to be available in stores starting September 22nd.
