According to the Russian TASS news agency, Armenia recognized Palestine as a state on Friday morning, as announced by Armenia’s foreign affairs ministry. Earlier, Norway, Ireland and Spain had formally recognised Palestine as a state.
In response, Israel’s foreign affairs ministry summoned the Armenian ambassador to Israel for a formal reprimand.
“Always being a supporter of the two-state solution in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Armenia has decided to recognize the independent state of Palestine,” wrote Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan in a post on X.
The severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the ongoing military conflict are major international issues that demand resolution. Armenia firmly condemns the targeting of civilian infrastructure, violence against civilians, and the taking of hostages during armed conflict, aligning with the international community’s call for their unconditional release.
Armenia has endorsed UN General Assembly resolutions calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Moreover, Armenia is deeply committed to fostering peace and stability in the Middle East and achieving lasting reconciliation between the Jewish and Palestinian peoples. Our consistent stance on various international platforms has been in favor of a peaceful and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue, supporting the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We believe this is the only way to ensure that both Palestinians and Israelis can realize their legitimate aspirations.
Reaffirming our commitment to international law and the principles of equality, sovereignty, and peaceful coexistence, Armenia recognizes the State of Palestine.
