Army chief expresses grief over loss of lives in plane crash

RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has expressed deepest grief over tragic loss of lives in a PIA plane crash near Havalian today (Wednesday).
“We stand shoulder to shoulder with bereaved families at this difficult time,” a statement by General Bajwa said, according to ISPR, media wing of Pakistan army.
The flight PK-661 carrying 48 people came down on a flight from the city of Chitral to Islamabad.
It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, which occurred near the village of Saddha Batolni in Abbottabad district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Authorities say black box was found from the crash site.
The military, which was part of rescue operations, said 36 bodies had so far been retrieved from the wreckage.
Meanwhile, PIA Chairman Azam Sehgal said that none aboard the plane survived the crash.
