Some shocking revelations have been made by the arrested members of the group active in extortion by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The suspects, apprehended on a tip-off, disclosed vital information about the extortion procedure.
The arrested individuals had been aiding the TTP for several years by collecting extortion payments for the group. Allegedly, they confirmed the presence of TTP commanders in Afghanistan.
One of the detained suspects divulged that TTP commander Abdul Raziq in Afghanistan would issue instructions to him via WhatsApp. The suspect claimed that the commander demanded photos and videos of people’s homes and shops to make extortion calls from Afghanistan. Furthermore, he mentioned that non-payment would result in threats of violence such as killings or abductions.
Law enforcement agencies are taking robust measures to safeguard the public. Security forces are making significant strides in dismantling the extortionist network.
According to Islamic scholars and common citizens, TTP terrorists are not only engaged in extremist activities but also contribute to economic woes through extortion. TTP members often attempt to extort money from contractors involved in development projects. Additionally, they extort money from individuals, politicians, government employees, and industrialists through intimidation. These elements have previously menaced tribal communities in Karachi too. Islamic Scholars emphasize that such acts, carried out in the name of Islam, are devoid of any Islamic principles and tarnish the religion’s image. The primary objective of these perpetrators is to spread corruption, as affirmed by 1800 scholars through a fatwa.
