The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Lahore has acquitted Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah, Captain (retd) Safdar, and several other Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders in the 2020 National Accountability Bureau (NAB) office attack case.
The court announced its reserved verdict after accepting the prosecution’s request to withdraw the case. The police report stated that allegations of stone-pelting at the NAB office during Maryam Nawaz’s appearance in the Raiwind land case could not be proven.
The case, registered at Chuhung Police Station in 2020 on the complaint of NAB Deputy Director Muhammad Asghar, accused PML-N leaders of inciting workers to violence when clashes broke out with police outside the NAB office.
After reviewing the evidence, the court accepted the police’s plea for dismissal and ordered the proceedings to be closed.
The verdict ends a five-year politically charged case that had lingered without any substantial proof against the accused, marking a legal victory for the PML-N leadership.
