A recent audit report on missing vehicles has revealed a major case of alleged asset mismanagement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Livestock Department. According to the findings for the fiscal year 2023–24, eighty government vehicles could not be accounted for.
The report stated that over 200 vehicles were purchased under different development schemes between 2007 and 2021. During the audit, records for eighty of these units were nowhere to be found.
Documents confirmed that the missing vehicles are still registered under the name of the Director General Livestock in the Excise Department’s records. However, no trace of these vehicles could be found in field operations or departmental offices.
The audit report on missing vehicles raised serious questions about transparency and accountability within the department. It advised strict measures to locate the unaccounted assets and hold those responsible to account.
Provincial Minister for Livestock Fazal Hakim acknowledged the issue. He said that letters had been issued to concerned authorities to recover the missing vehicles. An inquiry committee, led by the Secretary Livestock, has been formed to investigate the case and determine the cause of the disappearance.
Officials emphasise that the recovery of the missing vehicles remains a top priority to restore trust in the department’s management of public assets.
