Australia Defeat England in Final Ashes Test, Seal Series 4–1

Australia wrapped up a dominant Ashes campaign by defeating England in the fifth and final Test at Sydney, securing a comprehensive 4–1 series victory.

Chasing a modest target of 160 runs in the fourth innings, the hosts completed the task with five wickets in hand, underlining their control throughout the series. With this win, Australia capped off an impressive home Ashes performance, having already clinched the series by winning the first three matches.

England posted 384 runs in their first innings and followed it up with 342 in the second. However, Australia’s commanding first-innings total of 567 runs put the visitors under relentless pressure, leaving England with little room for recovery.

Veteran batter Steve Smith once again proved decisive, registering a magnificent century in the final Test. His knock not only anchored Australia’s innings but also saw him rewrite several Ashes and Test cricket records, reaffirming his status as one of the modern greats.

Meanwhile, Australian opener Usman Khawaja, playing what was described as the final Test of his career, had a subdued outing, scoring 17 runs in the first innings and six in the second.

England managed a consolation win in the fourth Test, but Australia’s consistency and depth ensured a decisive series triumph, further strengthening their dominance in Ashes cricket on home soil.
