Bajaur Attack Foiled: 11 Soldiers Martyred, 12 Militants Killed

A terrorist attack on a joint security check post in Bajaur was foiled by Pakistani forces on February 16, 2026, after militants attempted to breach security. However, a powerful explosion caused the martyrdom of 11 security personnel, according to the military.

In a statement, the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said militants linked to the group described as Fitna al-Khawarij,” allegedly backed by hostile elements, launched a coordinated assault on the check post.

Security forces responded swiftly and effectively, killing 12 attackers and preventing them from overrunning the facility. When their attempt failed, the militants rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the outer wall of the post, triggering a massive blast that destroyed parts of the infrastructure.

The explosion also damaged nearby residential buildings. A young girl was killed, while seven civilians — including women and children — were injured.

ISPR said a clearance and sanitisation operation is ongoing in the area to eliminate any remaining militants.

Pakistan’s security forces reiterated their resolve to continue operations against terrorism under the national security framework and ongoing counter-terror efforts.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the fallen personnel, praising their bravery and sacrifice. He said the forces thwarted the attackers’ plans and reaffirmed that the sacrifices of martyrs would not be forgotten.

Officials stressed that operations will continue until militant threats are fully neutralized.
