Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti has announced a civil award for hospital staff member Abdul Razzaq Tarakai, who rushed to help a female doctor after a brutal acid attack in Quetta.

In a post on X, the chief minister shared a picture of Abdul Razzaq Tarakai and praised his courage and quick response during the incident at Civil Hospital Quetta.

The attack took place on Saturday when a female doctor, identified as Dr Mahnoor Nisar, was targeted with acid inside the hospital premises. She was first shifted to a private hospital in Quetta and later moved to Karachi for further treatment.

Police said the suspect involved in the attack was later killed in an encounter.

Hospital sources said the doctor is now in stable condition. Specialists, including reconstructive surgeons and eye doctors, have examined her injuries and moved her to a special care unit.

She suffered burns on her face, abdomen, legs, and right hand. Medical reports suggest about 13% of her body was affected. Her eyesight remains intact, and doctors say she is out of danger.

Officials praised Abdul Razzaq Tarakai for immediately stepping in to assist the victim during the attack, despite the risk to his own life. The chief minister called him a “precious asset to society” and said his actions reflected strong humanitarian values.

In an official statement, Bugti said a civil award would be given to Abdul Razzaq Tarakai for showing extraordinary bravery, humanity, and dedication to duty.

He also spoke directly with Tarakai over the phone, appreciating his courage and telling him that he served humanity without caring for his own safety.

The chief minister assured him that the government would cover all medical expenses and provide treatment at top medical facilities in the country if required.

The Balochistan government said it remains committed to supporting individuals who show selfless service and protect human life in difficult situations.
