Balochistan is cultivating organic cotton on 117,000 hectares in districts such as Khuzdar, Kharan, Nasirabad, Sibi, Loralai, and Barkhan. Experts see significant potential for expanding cotton farming in the province.
The Balochistan Agricultural Research Center reports that 3.7 million hectares of barren land in the region could be made suitable for farming. This development would lead to a considerable increase in cotton production.
Rauf Kakar, Director General of the Agricultural Research Center, highlighted the economic potential of organic cotton. He stated, “By setting up textile industries in different districts, we can significantly enhance the economic benefits of cotton cultivation.”
Farmers in Balochistan also stressed the importance of government support in expanding cotton farming. Abdul Rehman Bazai, a local farmer, remarked, “Developing barren lands for cotton farming will not only boost production but also create a large number of jobs.”
Many farmers believe that with proper facilities and government backing, Balochistan could play a key role in meeting the country’s cotton demands. They see organic cotton as a valuable crop that could transform the province’s agricultural economy.
The future of organic cotton farming in Balochistan looks promising, with opportunities to increase production, support the textile industry, and provide employment for locals.
