Dhaka:
Cricket-related tensions between Bangladesh and India escalated further on Tuesday after Bangladeshi authorities ordered the suspension of broadcasts of the Indian Premier League (IPL), citing security concerns.
According to officials, the Bangladesh government has issued a formal notification directing broadcasters to halt the airing of IPL matches. The decision comes amid an increasingly strained cricketing relationship between the two countries.
The move follows an earlier setback for Indian cricket when the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) declined to send its national team to India. The BCB had also announced that Bangladesh would not travel to India for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
In a letter sent to the International Cricket Council (ICC), the BCB requested that Bangladesh’s matches be shifted to a neutral venue, preferably Sri Lanka.
The board cited concerns over the safety of players and journalists in India, stating that prevailing conditions posed potential risks to Bangladeshi personnel.
The ICC has yet to issue an official response to Bangladesh’s request or the suspension of IPL broadcasts.
