ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan rejected recent claims by Aleema Khan, the sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, regarding the former prime minister’s release.
Aleema Khan had earlier stated that the government hinted at releasing Imran Khan from custody within 20 days. Speaking in Lahore, she suggested that public protests had pressured the government into taking this step.
Aleema’s Remarks on Government’s Intentions
Aleema Khan claimed that the PTI’s continuous demonstrations had forced the government to consider releasing Imran Khan. She also mentioned a meeting between Barrister Gohar and Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, during which the issue was allegedly discussed.
According to Aleema, the PML-N government expressed a desire to calm public unrest by facilitating Imran Khan’s release. She said this step was intended to ease growing dissatisfaction among citizens.
Barrister Gohar’s Rebuttal
Barrister Gohar firmly denied these claims during a phone interview with Geo News. He stated he had no contact with government officials, either on or before November 24.
“There has been no discussion with the government about Imran Khan’s release,” Gohar said. He categorically rejected Aleema Khan’s assertion that he had given a specific timeline for the former prime minister’s freedom.
“The claim about a 20-day timeline for his release is incorrect. No such promise was made by the government,” Gohar clarified.
He also dismissed suggestions that the government had agreed to release Imran Khan in exchange for ending PTI’s ongoing sit-in protest.
Aleema Khan’s Concerns About Legal Delays
Aleema Khan called for expedited legal proceedings in her remarks. She argued that swift trials would save time and resources for all parties involved. She specifically criticized delays in the Jinnah House case.
According to her, PTI leaders were not seeking bail but demanded that court hearings begin without further postponements. She voiced concerns over the prosecution’s lack of substantial evidence and the unnecessary waste of time caused by prolonged legal battles.
Public and Legal Implications
Aleema Khan’s statements have sparked discussions about the government’s stance and PTI’s strategy amid ongoing protests. Barrister Gohar’s rebuttal highlights the absence of formal agreements or negotiations about Imran Khan’s release.
While public unrest continues, the focus shifts to legal battles and the call for justice in cases like Jinnah House. Both sides face pressure to address growing concerns about transparency and accountability.
