SYDNEY: Brisbane Heat have named Pakistani fast bowler Zaman Khan as a replacement for injured pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi for the remainder of the KFC Big Bash League (BBL), the franchise confirmed on Friday.
Zaman Khan has been cleared as an international replacement player and will be available for Heat’s remaining matches in the tournament. He is expected to feature in Saturday’s clash against his former side Sydney Thunder at the Gabba.
The 23-year-old previously represented Sydney Thunder during the 13th edition of the Big Bash League, where he impressed by claiming eight wickets in four matches at an average of 16.38.
Zaman has so far played 10 T20 Internationals and one One Day International for Pakistan. In domestic cricket, he represents Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League, where the side is captained by Shaheen Shah Afridi.
The fast bowler was recently part of the Abu Dhabi T10 League, where he made headlines by taking a hat-trick in his very first match of the tournament. He has also featured in major franchise leagues including the Pakistan Super League, Big Bash League, and England’s The Hundred, where he represented Manchester Originals.
Brisbane Heat are scheduled to face Sydney Sixers today in Coffs Harbour in a crucial fixture, with a place in the top four at stake. Head coach Johan Botha said the inclusion of Zaman Khan would add depth and experience to the bowling attack.
“He has the ability to take wickets with the new ball and can change the course of a match with his pace and variations,” Botha said.
The Heat squad will return to Brisbane following the match, where preparations will begin for their upcoming home fixture against Sydney Thunder at the Gabba.
