SWABI: A blast at the Swabi City police station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday has resulted in one death and injuries to 33 others, including on-duty police officers. Local authorities confirmed that the explosion caused significant damage to the building, leading to its partial collapse.
According to police reports, the explosion occurred in a storage room on the second floor of the police station, where explosive materials seized from terrorists were reportedly kept. Initial investigations indicate that the blast was triggered by a short circuit, resulting in multiple detonations.
District Police Officer (DPO) Swabi Haroon Rashid stated that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident. “The explosion has severely damaged the building, and rescue teams are actively working on-site,” he said.
Rescue workers and fire brigade personnel quickly arrived at the scene, transporting the injured to District Headquarters Hospital and MTI Bacha Khan Medical Complex, where an emergency has been declared. Dr. Asif, Medical Director at DHQ, reported that 26 injured individuals were admitted, along with the body of a child. Among the injured, the condition of two individuals is critical.
The Media Manager of Bacha Khan Medical Complex also confirmed that eight injured people were brought to their facility for treatment.
Local law enforcement officials have cordoned off the area and are conducting a thorough investigation to gather evidence and understand the circumstances surrounding the blast.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur has instructed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Akhtar Hayat Khan and the Chief Secretary to promptly reach the blast site. He has requested a detailed report and directed relevant authorities and the district administration to initiate rescue operations without delay.
The Chief Minister expressed his best wishes for the swift recovery of the injured and emphasized the critical importance of providing timely medical assistance.
