Body of Infant Found After Falling into Sewer Near Data Darbar

Lahore: The body of a 10-month-old girl, who had fallen into an open sewer near Data Darbar, has been recovered, rescue officials confirmed on Tuesday.

According to Rescue 1122, the body of Rida Fatima was found in a sewer line near Outfall Road, hours after she accidentally fell into an uncovered manhole along with her mother.

Earlier, the body of the child’s mother had already been recovered from the sewer.

Following the tragic incident, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took strict notice of what she termed administrative negligence and ordered immediate action against those responsible.

The chief minister, upon returning from Bhakkar, convened an emergency meeting at the airport and directed authorities to submit an independent fact-finding report without delay.

Meanwhile, an initial investigation report revealed that the victim, her husband, and the infant were last seen shopping near Data Darbar at 6:47pm. The family reached the front of the shrine at 7:22pm and began walking towards the Old Paranda Market at 7:30pm.

The report further stated that at 7:32pm, Rescue 1122 received an emergency call reporting that a woman and child had fallen into the sewer. Rescue teams arrived at the scene within four minutes.

Investigators also noted that the child’s grandmother was seen raising alarm and calling for help immediately after the incident.

Authorities have assured that responsibility will be fixed after completion of the inquiry.
