A brave citizen stops suicide attack in Kohat after sacrificing his own life while confronting a suspected suicide bomber near the inter-provincial border of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to security sources, the incident took place near Khushal Garh Bridge between Punjab’s Jand tehsil and Kohat district in KP. The suspected militant was reportedly moving through nearby fields when a local resident, Liaqat, stopped him and asked for identification.
During the confrontation, the attacker detonated explosives, killing both himself and Liaqat on the spot. Officials said the timely action by the retired Pakistan Railways employee prevented what could have been a much larger terrorist attack.
Liaqat belonged to Mankor village in Attock district. Security officials said the suspected bomber was trying to reach a sensitive checkpoint located in the border area. His intervention helped save security personnel as well as civilians present nearby.
The incident once again highlights the growing security challenges in border regions of Pakistan. Militants have repeatedly targeted civilians and security forces in different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in recent years.
Pakistan has witnessed a rise in cross-border terrorist incidents since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021. Islamabad has repeatedly asked Kabul to stop militant groups from using Afghan soil for attacks inside Pakistan.
Despite several rounds of talks and ceasefire efforts, tensions between the two countries remain high. Pakistan also launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq earlier this year in response to increasing militant activities and border security threats.
Liaqat’s sacrifice is being praised as an act of courage and patriotism that helped prevent a possible disaster in the area.
